At Milton Keynes Primary PRU our aim is to work, reflect and learn together as a community in order to improve and be the best that we can be to support the academic and social and emotional development of children in our school.
We are a small short-stay strengths based school that provides for up to 21 pupils (including 3 out of county commissioned places) who have either been, or are, at risk of being, excluded from mainstream primary schools. All the pupils have behavioural, social and emotional challenges and some have additional learning needs, at times with an Educational Health Care Plan. We are a strengths based school with high ambitions for all the children who attend here.
Our provision is seen in three areas:
Universal – Our Creative Curriculum with a therapeutic base
Targeted – Interventions and programmes
Specialist - Specialist professional interventions and programmes
Provision is personalised and each child has a personalised Individual Education Plan (IEP). The targets for the IEP’s are determined with the mainstream school and the family. This plan is put in place at the time of starting our school and is reviewed every six weeks so we can ensure children are making progress, and then working towards their next goals.
Most children are in our school for 12 weeks, unless it is determined beneficial for the child to remain a while longer so they can make even greater progress, and it is vitally important to us to ensure we are providing the best support for each and every individual child. Our baseline assessments of children’s needs, ongoing observations and assessments, robust processes and evaluations, planning, provision of a creative curriculum with a therapeutic base, and a range of evidence based interventions all help to secure the best possible outcomes for each child.
All of this creates “Our Offer” which you can read about here on our website. Our strategic process ensures resources, human and other, are deployed to get best value for money to achieve the best outcomes for our children.
